Library Assistant in Youth Services, Westfield Athenaeum (Westfield)

The Library Assistant in Youth Services provides a variety of library services for children, teens, families, and educators, including: reference, circulation, and programming. The Library Assistant also develops and purchases part of the juvenile collection and creates programming designated by the Assistant Supervisor of Youth Services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

1, Provides circulation and reference services to children, teens, parents, and educators.

2. Creates, develops, and implements programs and activities for children and families.

3. Researches, selects, and purchases library material and maintains a budget for the purposes of acquiring new materials.

4. Assists with marketing and outreach of the Youth Services Department.

5. Completes all other tasks and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. A high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Experience working with children and teens.
  3. Customer service experience.
  4. Basic computer skills.
  5. Excellent attention to detail.
  6. The ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  7. The ability to interact positively with library patrons and library staff.
  8. The ability to bend and lift light loads up to 40 pounds
  9. A Bachelor's degree is preferred but not required.
  10. Experience working in a Youth Services Department of a public library is preferred but not required.
