Library Assistant, Circulation, Ashland Public Library (Ashland)

The Town of Ashland seeks qualified, experienced, and energetic candidates for the position of a Part Time, 14 hours per week, Library Assistant in the Library Department. We are willing to train the right person who will be an asset to our team and who will be a great fit into our community.

Work Week: 14 hours per week, Schedule: Fridays 10:00 – 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays 9:00 -4:00 p.m. Additional substitute hours, specifically Monday 3:00 - 8:00 p.m., may be available so long as this position does not exceed 19 hours per week.

Anticipated Start Date: July 8, 2024 or soon after

Salary: Grade C-7 ($18.60/hour - $21.28/hour) per Agreement between the Town of Ashland and the Ashland Clerical Workers International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (U.A.W.) and its Local 1596.

DEFINITION

The Library Assistant, Circulation reports to the Director or Assistant Director of the Ashland Library. They are responsible for circulation desk functions using an automated circulation system, shelf maintenance, periodicals maintenance, basic library statistics, interlibrary loan coordination, and overdue book procedures. There are opportunities for additional tasks if the candidate is interested and time permits.

Responsibilities:

Support the circulation operations at the library including but not limited to:

Registering/maintaining patron records
Checkout/check-in/renew library materials (including print, non-print and inter-library loan materials.)
Shelving all library materials
Computer support (helping patrons with email, printing, etc.)
Reserving material
Notifying patrons when reserved material is available
Providing some Reader’s Advisory and answering questions.
Supporting programming with adding events to the library’s online calendar, creating flyers, posting to social media, and creating digital signage.

Willingness to learn and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to operate a keyboard and other office equipment. Required to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, talk, hear, write, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms, bend, climb, crouch and lift materials weighing up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distant vision

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

College education is required. Preference is given to those going to or considering library school.

Relevant experience in customer service, experience with Innovative's Millennium or Sierra platforms and computer skills preferred.
