Coordinator of Library Services, Massachusetts Bay Community College (Wellesley)

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community and have a desire and ability to work with a diverse population.  This position includes duties in connection with patron assistance, circulation, collection maintenance, and other basic library functions. They also aid library users in locating and using materials; charging, renewing and discharge library books and materials; and performing related work as required. This candidate will also aid in the maintenance, preparation, distribution and lending of library books and other materials.


Key Responsibilities and Duties:


Library Services Management:

Monitor and ensure accessible, productive, and efficient library services;
Direct staff at the circulation desk;
Provide leadership for outstanding customer service;
Collect and interpret library usage statistics, recommending action plans;
Assess workflow efficiency and review work quality;
Train library staff;
Participate in library planning and policy making;
Provide remote library services;
Prepare reports as requested by the Director;

Instructional Expertise:

Collaborate with faculty and librarians on course design and development;
Manage course development projects;
Create web-based resources and tutorials for teaching Information Literacy and Librarian Orientations using technology;
Analyze and assess course development projects;
Plan and manage training for new library-related technology and services;

Circulation Services Coordination:

Plan and manage projects for library staff (e.g., shelf maintenance, weeding, collection updates);
Provide ongoing feedback and assistance to enhance staff performance;

Collection Development:

Select new materials (physical and digital);
Deselect materials based on the college’s collection development policy and usage;
Monitor donated books and add appropriate ones to the collection;

Reference Services and Instruction:

Offer reference services to students in person and online;
Teach library instruction classes;

Open Educational Resources (OER) Program:

Develop OER partnerships;
Assist faculty in creating, remixing, and adopting OER materials;
Evaluate OER services;
Distance Learning and Online Resources:
Use web-based platforms to deliver instructions;

College Governance and Service:

Actively participate in Governance Committees;
Support college initiatives and co-curricular programming;
Provide library resources and services support;

Library Liaison Support:

Support Automotive Technology, Early Childhood Education, Nursing, and Allied Health programs;
Assist faculty, students, and staff with educational and research needs;
Collaborate on developing library instruction and online materials;
Maintain collection standards for accreditation;
Prepare library program accreditation and for accreditation site visits;

HELM (Higher Education Libraries of Massachusetts) Involvement:

Be an active participant in HELM network activities;
Attend required HELM meetings; and,
Be flexible in handling unexpected tasks.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Library Science, or closely related field; with five (5) years experience and/or training involving library operations, reference service, bibliographic instruction, circulation service, copy cataloging and library information systems; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Experience in a Community College;
Experience providing reference and instruction services both in-person and online;
Experience using an integrated library system;
Knowledge of ACRL (Association of College and Research Libraries) information literacy framework.
