Woburn Public Library is a national historic landmark built in 1879, boasting a state-of-the-art new addition that is an architectural marvel. The newly renovated space re-opened to the public in March 2019 and houses a spacious Children’s Room and Teen Room. ABOUT THE ROLE

The Woburn Public Library is seeking a full-time professional librarian to provide leadership to the Reference Department Team and Adult Programming. This position is responsible for the operation of all aspects of the Reference Department including staff supervision, collection development, interlibrary loan services and budget oversight. The Head of Reference also oversees planning and execution of Adult Programming. This position requires current knowledge of library trends and best practices. This is a 37.5 hours/week position that includes one night and every other Saturday.



CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Supervising Reference staff

·         Staying on top of print and electronic resources

·         Overseeing curation of printed and digital collections

·         Overseeing adult programming

·         Communicating between Reference, Archives, and Administration

·         Responding to phone, online, and in person inquiries from the public

·         Participates in collection development, including selection and weeding of materials

·         Develops Lib-Guides and other user aids

·         Promoting use of the library through postings on the website and through social media

·         Assisting patrons with public computer use, including troubleshooting, printing, and scanning

·         Assisting patrons with digital resources, including OverDrive and library databases

·         Assisting with curation of adult literacy materials

·         Providing Reference and Readers’ Advisory services

·         Performing interlibrary loan functions (Commonwealth Catalog, OCLC, etc.)

·         May fill in as needed at other public service desks, including Circulation

·         Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Woburn is a city of 41, 056 with shifting demographics and serves a population that includes new Americans for whom English is not their primary language as well as those experiencing homelessness. Maturity, empathy, and the ability to support staff in a busy fast-paced environment are important skills for this position.

Minimum Qualifications:

·         MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited institution

·         2-3 years experience in public library reference preferred

·         Excellent customer service skills and experience

·         Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills

·         Must be comfortable answering technology questions regarding various devices and forms of digital content

·         Demonstrated ability and experience with the Internet, electronic databases, Microsoft office products and integrated library systems

·         Public library experience, ideally within the Minuteman Library Network, is preferred

·         A working knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese or Haitian Creole is an added advantage
