Youth Services Librarian, Wilton Public & Gregg Free Library (WILTON, NH)
The Wilton Public & Gregg Free Library located in Wilton NH (population just under 4,000) is looking for a creative and flexible person to lead our Youth Services department. This part-time, 20 hour/week position includes one Saturday a month in rotation and possible evening availability. The Library is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
What you’ll do:
Be a friendly, welcoming presence for children (birth - teens) and families
Provide assistance to young patrons and their families, promoting literacy and helping them discover and utilize our library resources (print and digital)
Curate and maintain a vibrant youth collection that represents a wide range of interests and recognizes diverse experiences
Foster a love of reading through storytimes, creative displays and reader’s advisory
Reach out and build active relationships with local public and private schools and community groups
Plan, prepare and present youth programming in the library and offsite, as well as leading our Summer Reading Program
Train and supervise youth volunteers; work as a team with additional youth services staff
Collaborate, solve problems and celebrate successes with library staff
What we’re looking for:
Knowledge of children’s and YA literature - and a love of reading it!
High comfort level with library technologies and social media
Adaptability and patience working with children of all ages
Understanding of child development
Belief in the ALA Library Bill of Rights and the Freedom to Read Act
Desire to work with a small, close-knit staff and step in to help as needed
Willingness to learn new skills and reflect on successes and disappointments
Enthusiasm, organization and great sense of humor (daily laughter is a must)
Qualifications
We will consider a combination of degree (Bachelor’s or MLIS) and/or experience when choosing a candidate.
